Crafting Your Dream Wedding Team
Wanted: The Perfect Wedding Vendor Team. The wedding planning process is a thrilling adventure, filled with the anticipation of creating unforgettable moments and memories. How do you choose the perfect team of wedding professionals to help your ideal day become real?
We asked Matthew Davey, Wedding DJ and Coordinator at Bow Tied Experiences, and Elizabeth Rose, lead photographer at The Next Adventure Photography, to share their insights about vendor selection and successful collaborations.
Do Your Research
If you’re on the wedding circuit, while attending the affairs of friends and relatives you’re getting a glimpse of your wedding day possibilities. See what you like and what you don’t. Keep notes so you don’t forget a name or experience you loved! Matthew strongly recommends diving into vendor websites, social media pages, and reviews to gauge their work. An ideal way to meet a lot of vendors and see their creativity in person is to attend a wedding show, like Atlanta Wedding Extravaganza. Once you’ve found a vendor you believe could be a great partner, Elizabeth recommends scheduling a one-on-one consult, either in person or virtually. Establishing a personal connection and making sure you feel comfortable with that vendor is essential.
Ask for Referrals
Vendor relationships can be a game-changer in creating a seamless wedding experience. Matthew believes it’s very valuable to ask the first vendors you’ve booked for their recommendations in other categories. Or, ask them about vendors you're considering. “Friendors,” vendors who have friendly relationships and respect each other’s quality of work, collaborate seamlessly. They understand each other's strengths and styles and that collegiality can enhance the cohesiveness of your wedding day.
Understand Your Vendor Timeline
The importance of contracting vendors well ahead of your wedding date is crucial. Sought-after vendors often book well in advance, so securing your favorites 12-18 months ahead of time (or even earlier!) is a wise move. Keep in mind that popular months such as May, June, September, and October tend to fill up quickly. If you absolutely HAVE to have a specific vendor or team, you might ask about their availability even before finalizing a date with your chosen venue.
Relax and Have Fun
Once contracts are signed, it's time to relax and have fun! Your trusted team of professionals should guide you through the planning process and address your questions along the way. Matthew and Elizabeth love building authentic relationships with their couples and say that in-person planning meetings are key, because they foster rapport. This personal connection allows your dream team to understand you as a couple, providing a more personalized experience on your wedding day.
Taking the time to find the right team for your dream wedding takes time and patience. But it will be well worth it when your wedding day unfolds with joy, love, and unforgettable moments.
